Six Tips on Internet Marketing for Local Businesses

Local marketing has become an important aspect to doing business. As more and more people are searching and looking for local businesses online, you need to make sure you are taking the proper steps to ensure your business can easily be found.

Tip #1: Always include a Call-To-Action (CTA)

Whether on your web pages, Facebook page, recent Tweet, and so on, you need a strong CTA. A CTA is basically an invitation for people to do something, such as request your free downloadable e-book, subscribe to a newsletter, print a discount coupon, or call to get a free quote or free consultation.

Tip #2: Start a Weekly Blog

Blogging is not new and many businesses have dabbled with it from time to time. The key thing to remember is both Google and Bing have algorithms that look for new website content. If you are adding a new blog each week to your website, this counts as a new page. As a result, your site could be indexed higher and slowly start to move up to the top of the search result listings on page one.

Keep in mind the blog content does need to be relevant to your business and its products and services. However, you are free to write whatever you want, such as a FAQs blog, how-to blogs, an in-depth product or service review, and so on. Your blogs should also incorporate one or two long tail or localization keywords naturally into the content, such as “search engine optimization marketing services in Toronto.”

Tip #3: Participate in Social Media

You do not need to register and have a presence on every single social media platform. However, you should have a presence on at least two social media platforms with Facebook being one of them. For the second one choose the one that best suits your business. For instance, if you have tons of product pictures to post, then Pinterest might be good.

Tip #4: Engage with People on Social Media

If people leave comments or other posts on your social media pages, engage with them. Answer their questions, thank them for their feedback, and so on. You could even ask a question to gain insight about the needs and wants of your customers and spark an online discussion.

Tip #5: Use Geotagging

Geotagging allows businesses to share location data. This is beneficial when people are doing searches and they want to see what is near them based on their current location. Geotagging is a newer method of localization marketing that is growing in use.

Tip #6: Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

You cannot ignore the important of SEO if you want people to find your business in local search results. You can take advantage of local SEO marketing strategies even if you do not have a website, such as registering your business on Google My Business and using a few different social media platforms.
